Myth!Fic Meme
Dec. 24th, 2014 04:51 pm...Ho bisogno di prompt mitologici, okay?
Okay.
Just sayin'.
( Myth!
*grin*
...No. I'm not even ashamed.

Just spreading the love
Jul. 20th, 2014 01:22 amSo, I may have already put some backhanded reference to him in a post. And I may have been pondering for a while if it was the case to spam him all over the place - it was, it still is.
But someone says it much better than I think I could. I don't know what the hell happened and I don't think I even want to know, because I know I'd just get angry at the whole world for an unreasonable amount of time (yeah, that's something I do), but I agree with this post on so. Many. Levels.
Seriously, I'm not heathen or pagan and I don't even have tumbrl, I'm just a cluesless Norse Mythology fangirl who reads the gods as characters to squee over or - in her best days - as archetypes and costructions born out of a certain kind of society. But GLE's askblog is one of my favourite things on the Internet.
You want interesting aricles? He has them. You want books and essays? He'll point you in the right direction and give links where he can. You're tired of people telling you their UPGs are totally the complete and universally accepted truth, misquoting stuff and trying to make you feel like an idiot because you don't know stuff that doesn't even happen in the lore, copying random stuff from Raven Kaldera, pretending to destroy misconceptions once and for all while actually serving you only not-too-plausible theories, and NEVER FUCKING SPELLING OUT JUST WHICH FUCKING SOURCE THEY'RE USING TO SUPPORT THEIR CLAIMS? GLE saved me from a life of repeatedly headdesking every single time I look up something Norse-related on the Internet.
Also, he is a really great guy. He's helpful, honest, intelligent, always ready to call out racism, sexism and every other shitty -ism. Sometimes he posts things that make me want to hug him so much. With him, you can always be sure to learn something new about Norse Myths or heathenry in general without having to face lots of triggering stuff.
So, yeah. Just check him out and have your mind blown by his sheer awesomeness, 'kay?

My Two Cents About Sigyn
Jun. 30th, 2014 10:29 pm... Or, the useless and irrationally angry musings of a too-fangirlish fangirl. Though, seriously, what did you expect from one with that sort of username?
Anyway, these are things that piss me off as Norse Mythology-obsessed creep with a soft spot for Sigyn and Loki/Sigyn.
( So here it comes the sound of rant )
… Yeah, I’m done now. A little less angry, a little more embarrassed by my own nerdiness and fangirling.
Time to write more Loki/Sigyn p0rn, I guess.

You find a piece of Viking fiction that looks quite good. It's got shieldmaidens. It's got magicians.
Then you discover that the magician are all male - not a völva, not a spækona, not a wife doing simple protection spells with a spindle. And the male magicians and seers aren't even a tiny bit effemminate or even just rumored to be gay. Also, no Finns or Saami shamans in sight.
... Seriously, am I the only one who wants to see that kind of stuff? The only one?
(Okay, I am.)

... Seriamente, non svegliatemi. Potrei diventare violenta. Molto.

I actually did it
May. 9th, 2014 11:08 pmI actually did it. I created a Norse Mythology kinkmeme. I have absolutely no experience with handling communities, but here I go.
You can find it here.
Avevo anche pensato ad un kinkmeme bilingue, ma temo che potrebbe diventare troppo confusionario, what with the double posts and all. Consigli?
EDIT: Ecco il kinkmeme italiano! :D

Yay Norse AU \O/
§ Hod, Balder: danesi (yay Gesta Danorum references!)
Anzi, fenno-svedese, a pensarci bene.
§ Sigyn: bibliotecaria
§ Frigg: consulente matrimoniale o, in alternativa, avvocato divorzista, perché i tempi cambiano.
Yaaaay.

Weird stuff I think up
Apr. 25th, 2014 08:08 pmAm I seriously the only fangirl who craves a Norse Mythology kinkmeme?
Like, not a generic mythology kinkmeme - actually, there is one already, but it's kinda, you know, dead and not resurrecting anytime soon. And certainly not a Greek/Roman Mythology kinkmeme with the odd reference to other pantheons. And, heck, NOT a Thor kinkmeme where everyone throws random mythologic names around in their porn - "LOL I made Freya an Asian-American asexual guy who married Bruce Banner in Las Vegas years before the start of the actual prompt" - and acts like an experct because they read Loki fucked a horse in a fanfiction.
... Okay, okay, I know. But it seriously gets annoying and tiring when you search for Norse Mythology fanfics on AO3 and all you ever get is Marvel!Thorki with some vague mention in the first line of the prologue of "that awesome chick Glut who's totally Loki's first and most important wife and gave him loads of kids and I'm pretty sure she's EVERYWHERE in the original lore" (okay, "respect other people's headcanons", I get it and I try to always apply it - but still) because people either honestly think MCU = Norse Myths or just don't know how to use tags. (No, it's not a crossover, it's just that you made a Marvel!Jotun OC and decided to call xir Angrboda.)
I want a place were people say "Norse" and actually mean it. I want a place where I can ask for fanarts of Loki's scarred lips or Modgud/Hell fluffy fanfics or Freyr/Freya "this is fordibben in Asgard but who gives a fuck" sexytimes, where I can see if other people share my headcanons and compare characterizations, where I can joke about the "Aesir were Trojan heroes" theories or about Heimdall's huge threesome kink and people get it - and, above all, a place where nobody ever says "Asgardians".
Norse Mythology is basically the perfect Fandom - it's got crossdressing, slash (and femslash, if we want to look a bit deeper into Frigg and Fulla's relationship ...), bestiality, loads of angst, weird humor, incest, awesome female characters who don't need to be turned into Valkyrie-like warriors to be cool ... and up until now I've only found a bit of Loki/Sigyn and a couple of Odin/Loki fics. It's depressing, really.
Yeah, yeah, I know. "You want it, you write it". And you know what? I did, I do and I will keep doing it.
But I still think a Norse Mythology kinkmeme would be the best thing since the mead-goat.

What You've Been Missing
Oct. 2nd, 2013 10:09 pmHey, you! Yeah, you with the thick shipping goggles and the bizarre, unusual kinks. I know you.
You're the ones who read Thrymskvida and write crossdressing!Marvel!Thorki, the ones who start giggling madly every time someone says "Loki" and "horse" in the same sentence and know the "Jotnar = nature and feminine" theories because "OMFGs Tom Hiddleston as a hot intersex guy". You're the ones who watch Jesus Christ Superstar once and ship J/J for the rest of your lives, the ones who watch Supernatural or read Good Omens and suddenly get a craving for wing!fics and angels with way too many heads. You're the ones who manage to ship Achilles/Patroclos even in That Horrible Movie, and the ones who ship Apollo/Dyonisus but never bother to write anything about it - and I'll never get why.
But you're so much more than just that, aren't you? You're the ones who remember all the times Zeus turned into an animal to spice thing up with a maiden. You're the ones who know that Odin crossdresses too, and that his wife was quite fond of her brothers-in-law. You're the ones who read the tale of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and are more interested in the amount of manly totally-not-romantic slashy kisses than in the magic or the possible death of the hero.
Let's face it, you probably look at Japanese Mythology and think, "yeah, this could use more The Fisherman's Wife's Dream-like moments". You read the Epic of Gilgamesh and say, "Why didn't he just have a threesome with Enkidu and that hot goddess?".
And that's okay. Mythology is all about shagging and killing and shagging again and you know it. What is NOT okay is not doing anything about it!
That's way you ARE going to prompt and fill something for mythology_kink.
Click for awesome!
Let's face it: this community is dead. No one prompts or fills anymore.
But isn't it a real shame? And wouldn't you like to be able to read quality fanfictions about your favourite mythological pairings, the ones that nobody else ever seems to know? Wouldn't you like to write it yourself? To explore an incredible range of kinks, from the classic adultery to things like crossdressing and Mpreg and incest and gore and femdom and slash and femslash? My Fandoms have all that kind of stuff and so much more - what about yours? Well, I guess your Fandoms don't even have mind-blowing beauties and demigods of incredible strenght and stamina ...
Still not convinced? Fine. That's your problem. I'll have sea monsters and adventures and godly sexy-times while you have your tenth arranged marriage-and-they-have-cheap cultural differences-and-angst-and-vaginas-and-a-baby Marvel!Thorki fic in a row.
Bye!
